The approaches are multi-leveled ranging from cultural and historical preservation aspects to economic development and opportunity as well as the integration of collaborative efforts to attain its objectives.
The Kauai West Side Watershed Council is established to provide the formats by which a community-based organization may serve as a central and cohesive entity to manage, correlate, and direct its efforts to establish the means by which the private and public sectors may participate in the endeavor to protect the resources in its area which include a wide range of components.
The KWWC seeks to explore and define the methods by which a multitude of projects, programs, and activities may be prioritized within the scope of its mission. It seeks the ways and means it may be possible to hold the traditions of the cultures inherent in the community in perpetuity as well as to provide the means by which the finest and best outcomes may be realized through the advent of modern technology.
Libre is in charge of the entertainment. The entire shindig is being spearheaded by Jose Bulatao, a Kekaha resident who has handled a wide variety of projects including pageants, plays, gala events, and community celebrations all over Kauai.
"This is the first announcement of this special community event," stated Bulatao. More information will be forthcoming on a website that will soon be available, he promised.
Old time Kekaha residents are being asked to bring out their hoes and rakes big time. It's because the Yard Contests are back just like they used to have in the good ole plantation days held annually decades ago.
This time, the Kauai Westside Watershed Council is coordinating this event for several reasons. "The first is to bring a community identity to the residents today.Kekaha has been designated as 'The Garden Town of the Garden Island', and this is a splendid way to demonstrate why this is so," said Mary Jean Buza-Sims, who is chairing this aspect of the community celebration that will take place right at the end of hurricane season on November 30-December 1, 2007.
Established and Serving Kaua’i since 1993
According to Publicity Chairman, Lyndon Yamane, "The Kekaha Community Revitalization Event will also feature a sand-sculpture exhibit and contest which is being coordinated by Erik Coopersmith." "What's more, an international festival of drums segment will highlight two days of entertainment," promised Yamane. This segment serves to represent "the heartbeat of humanity in support of sustainability," explained Rhoda Libre, who chairs the Kauai Westside Watershed Council.
